New Delhi: More than a million people have applied for a job in the digital advertising and marketing industry, the highest since the country was formed in 1948.
The government is expected to unveil the jobs figures soon, but it is already clear that the job-seekers are eager to work.
Key points:The number of job seekers in the industry has doubled in the past two years, up from 1.5 million in 2016 to 2.5million in 2017The industry is dominated by a handful of big names such as AnandTech, Omnicom and BBM, and there are signs the demand for talent is risingMore than 4,000 job seekers have applied to jobs in the Indian digital advertising industry over the past three months, the government said on Thursday.
The job-hunting frenzy is the latest sign that the booming Indian economy is taking off and that it is on track to become the most popular sector in the country.
Jobseekers from across the country, including students, retirees and students from India’s largest private university, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), are flocking to the job market to find a better job.
A surge in demand for network marketing positions has been apparent in recent months.
The number of jobs being advertised on job portals such as Flipkart, Zoho and Foursquare has doubled between January and March.
The number one job market in India is the advertising and digital marketing sector, according to a survey by industry body Fintech India, which surveyed more than 2,000 workers and employers.
Ahead of the job crunch, several top network marketing companies have set up their offices in India to attract talent, including Anandtech, Omni, BBM and Omnicobots.
The growth of the Indian market is the result of the success of social media giants such as Facebook, which have created platforms that allow people to connect, share and communicate with each other and their friends.
In 2017, Facebook was the top search engine in the world for job seekers.
But its dominance in the job hunt has also led to a sharp rise in the number of applications from across India.
According to a report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce, there were 4,500 job openings for network marketers across the Indian economy, an increase of nearly 2,500 over the previous year.
The Indian government has invested heavily in training and job-matching programmes for job-seeking Indians, which has resulted in a sharp increase in the size of the workforce in the sector.
Job-hunters have also used online platforms to get in touch with employers.
In February, Facebook said it had more than 12 million verified job seekers and was recruiting 2,700 candidates per day.
In recent months, BBS, a top job-hunter platform, has also been ramping up its presence in India.
Last month, the platform added over 1 million job seekers across the world to the workforce.
FintechIndia said the surge in job-market activity has led to an increase in demand in the global marketplace.
The jobs boom has not been without its challenges.
According to the Fintec survey, only 3% of jobs advertised on BBS in India last year were in network marketing.
Accordingly, many job seekers are also struggling to find out if they qualify for an online interview, which can take up to three days.
“The challenge for jobseekers in the network marketing sector is that the application process can take two weeks to complete,” Fintex’s co-founder, Ravi Chaudhary, told ABC News.
The industry needs a clear picture of what skills it needs in order to attract top talent, he added.
But even if job-search platforms can help job-seeker with a more comprehensive interview process, the demand is still not there.
“It is clear that we are not seeing any evidence of job-hunt success in the face of job availability,” he said.
Chaudharies said that even though the number one ranking job-spotting platform in the market is Facebook, there are still plenty of vacancies.
He added that many job-applicants are also using other platforms such as LinkedIn to check if they can find a job.
“We need to make sure that these job-finders are trained in the skills that are required in a successful job search.
The job market is changing fast and that is a great opportunity for the industry,” he added, pointing out that the demand in India may be the fastest in the region.
